Circuit Judge Appointment: Powell
The Queen has appointed Richard Arthur Gayler Powell to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Dominic Raab MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.
The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the North Eastern Circuit, based at Newcastle Civil & Family Courts and Tribunals Centre with effect from 4 October 2021.
Background Information
Richard Arthur Gayler Powell, aged 55, will be known as His Honour Judge Powell. He was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1989. He was appointed as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Immigration and Asylum Chamber in 2002 and as a Recorder in 2012. He was authorised to sit in the Social Entitlement Chamber in 2018.
