New deadline: EOI for the Courts of Appeal of Jersey and Guernsey
Update: The closing date has been extended to Sunday 30 January 2022.
The Bailiff of Jersey, Mr Timothy Le Cocq, is seeking expressions of interest to fill a vacancy at the Courts of Appeal of Jersey and Guernsey. Judges who hold an authorisation under s9(1), or an appointment under s9(4), of the Senior Courts Act 1981 are invited to apply. On this occasion, appointment will focus on experience in trusts and other Chancery work.
Following the retirement of Sir Michael Birt from the Courts of Appeal of Jersey and Guernsey, we are seeking expressions of interest for the appointment of his replacement to take up sitting in 2022.
Judges of the Courts of Appeal are appointed by The Queen on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor, after receiving advice from the Bailiffs of Jersey and Guernsey.
Below for information a short note about the Jersey and Guernsey Courts of Appeal. As you will see, this is a part-time appointment which requires only a few (usually two or three) visits to the Islands each year. Also below is a note containing the qualities that Judges of the Courts of Appeal are required to possess.
The successful candidate will be selected after a sift conducted jointly by the Bailiffs, Judge of Appeal James McNeill QC and the Judicial Office, who will consider the information contained in the expressions of interest and CV, two referees’ and comments and the views of the Chancellor of the High Court and President of the Queen’s Bench Division.
If you are interested in being considered for this post, please send a copy of your CV, together with an assessment of how you consider that you meet the qualities for appointment to JOpostappointments@judiciary.uk. Your application will be acknowledged. Please also supply the name of two Judges or practitioners whom we can approach for an assessment of your suitability for appointment to this post.
The closing date has been extended to Sunday 30 January 2022.
